MemoROM is a project funded with support from the European Commission from December 2013 until March 2015.

Objectives

This project aims to create an International Remembrance Network to raise awareness about the Roma and Sinti Holocaust in order to fight discrimination, prejudices and stereotypes about Roma. By rediscovering the relatively unknown history of the Roma and Sinti Holocaust, we expect to promote tolerance, mutual understanding, and intercultural dialogue between Roma and non-Roma.

The project main target groups include:

  • Roma organisations and activists
  • Media
  • Students, teachers, academia
  • European, national, regional and local authorities

Project outputs

The main outputs will be:

  • International Remembrance Network formed by organisations, Roma activists, institutions, associations and museums working on or interested by the Roma and Sinti Holocaust;
  • Documentary on the Roma and Sinti Holocaust with interviews with survivors, experts and academics;
  • 5 national workshops (Belgium, France, Spain, Bulgaria and Germany);
  • 5 national debates (Belgium, France, Spain, Bulgaria and Germany);
  • Action plan to raise awareness about the Roma and Sinti Holocaust;
  • Project final conference in Brussels;
  • Project website in English and French, which will disseminate the main results.
